Everyone who is a Christian should have a testimony because your testimony is evidence that you have faith operating in your life.
Hebrews 11:1-6 states, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good testimony. By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things, which are seen, were not made of things, which are visible. By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts; and through it he being dead still speaks. By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, and was not found, because God had taken him; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God. But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”
No matter how hard you try, you will not be able to please God without faith. Here are some things you should know in the giving of your testimony. First our testimony should not just be about our lives but also must be an active testimony of what God is doing now. You can always tell when a church needs stirring up when there are very few testimonies. Our testimony should be about our faith walk, which is a day-to-day event.
Your testimony also should be testifying even after you’re dead and gone. Your life as a believer should leave a legacy of who you were, what you did, what you said and whom you gave to.
III John 1: 9 states, “I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to have the preeminence among them, does not receive us. Therefore, if I come, I will call to mind his deeds, which he does, prating against us with malicious words. And not content with that, he himself does not receive the brethren, and forbids those who wish to, putting them out of the church. Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. He who does good is of God, but he who does evil has not seen God. Demetrius has a good testimony from all, and from the truth itself. And we also bear witness, and you know that our testimony is true.”
The people who do good and have a good testimony are the ones we should follow. They are the people who know God.
Our testimony should be from what other people say about us as well. Not everyone is going to love you, and understand you it is just not possible. But you should have a good testimony from others. It is all part of your legacy that you leave behind. Our testimony should be based on the Bible and not on what we feel or think.
Lastly, our testimony must match our conduct and theology. Our theology is our understanding and belief of God. Our conduct should match what we believe. The way we act in the church should be the same as at home and out in the world.
Whenever our conduct doesn’t match our theology, then the devil comes into the picture and uses guilt and condemnation. When you get away from God, you open the door for the enemy to attack you. Whenever you do something wrong and feel condemned, just remember that condemnation comes from the enemy. If you mess up and sin, repent and turn back to God. Those who are in Christ Jesus, your spirit is made perfect because of what Jesus did. You will never be more holy than the first day you accepted Jesus Christ the anointed one in your heart. The Holy Spirit will bring you back to Him and all you will have to do is yield.
