I trust this series from Micah’s prophecies has been helpful and inciting within you the reader, a serious desire to restore the integrity of the Christian faith. So much of what the prophet addresses parallels our own world. In chapter 5 Micah continues as the mouthpiece of God, speaking to a people in moral derision. We’ve already noted that the nation is on the verge of a catastrophic social, political and economic meltdown, that despite Micah’s insightful analysis they have demonstrated a defiant and self serving attitude, disregarding his message.
Micah is wanting to excite a sense of hope within the remnant who have remained faithful to God, assuring the people that God can be trusted and He has a plan. It is however, expedient that those called by His name organize their priorities in strict obedience to the Holy Scriptures.
Now, moving into Chapter five of Micah’s prophecy, he poses additional warnings for the reader and yet forecasts an awesome act of Divine providence. Verses 1 - 4 reveal that the children of Zion will suffer the consequences of their obstinacy, but reading on into verses 5 and 6 he explains that under the Promised Messiah’s administration there would ensue peace. That is, those who would respond to His Lordship could experience the phenomena for which many are forever searching. This revelation of peace would have far reaching results, affecting endless generations. What I have come to recognize is that those who have come to know Jesus Christ, their personal Messiah, have found what materiality, pharmaceuticals and hallucinogenic drugs cannot induce. They have found Peace and tranquility that only He can bring to the troubled and ravaged soul.
As we move into verses 7 through 9, Micah reaffirms the challenge to the remnant of Jacob, that although an intense struggle with contemporary society was inevitable, God is still involved and will act in mercy. His astonishing prophecy would not only sustain the hope and vigor of the present generation, but would impact future generations as well. Again he speaks concerning the advent of Messiah and His rule, describing an authority figure that would conquer evil and enable believers to excel in righteousness.
What the prophet Micah disclosed certainly had futuristic overtones, indeed, we continue to wrestle with the components of evil, venomous serpents that keep us diligently looking for the fulfillment of these prophetic words on a broader level. But, Messiah was born in Bethlehem Ephratah and has defeated the terror of the enemy. As individuals we need not clamor for peace, Christ has shown us His power to rise above the wicked tempests and know His calm. Such is a foretaste of what Messiah will accomplish when He returns again. This time He will come on a white horse, He that is Faithful and True, and in righteousness will he judge, we’ll note His eyes are a flame of fire and His name will be called “The Word of God”, His vesture will fully disclose that He will reign as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords (Rev. 19:11). Friends, I understand the madness and uncertainty of our times, but our solace is not found in the natural sphere, rather, it is found in maintaining intimacy with the promised Messiah. Again I’d like to see believers everywhere, rushing to the altars of repentance and crying out to God for His remedial presence. So, join me in collectively rejoicing in the promises of God and let us continue to believe for a mighty deluge of God’s blessings upon His elect while we wait for the Prince of Peace to return.
