One of the best things about living near the coast is that it’s a fishing paradise for those who like to catch fish. During fishing season in Matagorda County you can catch trout, redfish, flounder and catfish in the bays and rivers. They always seems to have its share of fisherman. Fishing is for young and old, male and female. Anyone who would like to fish can.

The question Jesus asked, but do you know how to fish for men?

Matthew 4:18-20 states, “As He was walking along the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon, who was called Peter, and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the sea, since they were fishermen. Follow Me, He told them and I will make you fish for people! Immediately they left their nets and followed Him.”

That same charge is for every believer today, the charge by Jesus to follow him and fish for men and women. The first step in catching fish or men in the kingdom of God is to answer the call and leave everything to follow Jesus. The bait that will catch men and women has always been Jesus. If you lift up Jesus, then he will draw men and women into the kingdom of God.

John 12:32 states, “And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to myself.”

The responsibility of touching lives for God is up to the Lord all we need to do is share the gospel and use the bait to catch souls for the kingdom of God. The only way you can be a good kingdom fisherman is to walk by faith and trust Jesus to do the rest. One of the ways that God draws people to him is with signs and wonders. Miracles draw people to the Lord just like light attracts baitfish. One story in the Bible where Jesus used miracles to draw people to him was the story about the miraculous catch of fish.

John 21:1-10 states, “After these things Jesus showed Himself again to the disciples at the Sea of Tiberias, and in this way He showed Himself: Simon Peter, Thomas called the Twin, Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of His disciples were together. Simon Peter said to them, I am going fishing. They said to him, We are going with you also. They went out and immediately got into the boat, and that night they caught nothing. But when the morning had now come, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. Then Jesus said to them, Children, have you any food? They answered Him, No. And He said to them, Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some. So they cast, and now they were not able to draw it in because of the multitude of fish. Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, It is the Lord! Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment (for he had removed it), and plunged into the sea. But the other disciples came in the little boat (for they were not far from land, but about two hundred cubits), dragging the net with fish. Then, as soon as they had come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid on it, and bread. Jesus said to them, bring some of the fish which you have just caught.”

Just like in Jesus’ day miracles still work to draw people to Christ. One of the other problems people have in catching fish is to know the right place where fish gather. Here are some of the places where you can find men and women who are open to following Jesus; jails, hospitals and people in society who are worried about the economy and people who gather needing help.

Lastly after you catch the fish, then the next step is to clean the fish up. Every person who comes into the kingdom of God needs to be clean but the responsibility for cleaning people up belongs to the Holy Spirit. There is no greater time than now to catch fish for the Kingdom of God, you have the bait, and the place where fish gather, now, all you need to do is fish.
