Dear Editor:

Why am I mistreated? Why do they want to end my life? Why do they take my babies? I worry and fret when I can’t find them. I would have been a good mother. I don’t bother anyone. All I want to do is live my life, just as you do. If I’m found roaming, I’m just exploring. That my nature. Don’t hold it against me and take me away. If I stray too far, my owners will search for me. And, for those of my kind that have no one to call their own, they too want to live. And maybe one day the right person will come along to rescue them. It could happen and has happened. Some of us are put in “shelters.”

But a shelter is a place of refuge, something that gives protection, isn’t it?

Yes, there are a number of us here, but there are those who truly care and that are willing to help. It’s their prerogative. The sacrifice is well worth it. They know how our presence can bring them pleasure and, in turn, improve their health. Some of us have been rescued from “shelters” and have been trained to entertain you. What talent! But, worst of all, what a shame if that life had been wasted. Look into our eyes, please – they’ll talk to you.

Although we’re unsuspecting we sense danger and react to it and, sadly, that’s misinterpreted as worthy of death. But isn’t that the way of survival?

Please editor, we need your help in letting the public know our plight. We want to live!

Thank you,

Esmeralda Hein, A voice for the animals of Bay City

  • Very beautifully said for the Pitiful situation the cats are dealt with in Bay City.
2 years from now when STP mans up and 6000 workers descend on Bay City only to find we have the most barbaric laws in the nation, do we take out adds in the local newspapers warning the cats owners not to bring their pets cat because cats, have no protection from accidentally getting getting lose and being killed the same day by animal control, how simple would it be for City Council to pass a 72 hour reprieved before being destroyed!!!
