CONTRIBUTED BY MCSO

According to Capt. Richard Rooth, Sheriff’s Office investigators have arrested or have warrants for seven individuals who committed numerous burglaries and thefts in Matagorda County this summer; most of them in the Sargent and Matagorda areas. A total of sixteen thefts and burglaries have been cleared.

Joseph Tyler Geffert, 27 years of age of Bay City, remains incarcerated in the Matagorda County Jail on three counts of Theft; 2 counts of Burglary of a Habitation and 1 count of Theft of a Firearm. Total bail for Geffert is $75,000.00. Arrested along with Geffert was Sherry Bucek, 30 years of age of Markham. Bucek was arrested for pawning stolen firearms and has been released on a $5000 bond. Geffert is responsible for 10 burglaries and thefts in Matagorda, Selkirk, and Bay City, resulting in loss of property in the amount of $25,000. However, investigators have recovered all the property stolen in these cases which included firearms, fishing equipment, batteries and a boat motor.

Michael Harrison 17 years of age and Charlie Kennemore 18 years of age have been arrested following a spree of burglaries and thefts in Sargent. A juvenile accomplice was also involved. The suspects, all of Sargent, broke into numerous homes and vehicles; mainly stealing liquor and food. According to statements obtained from the three, they went into homes through windows and targeted homes of weekend residents of Sargent. Investigators recovered stolen boogie boards, a microwave and a car radio with a total value of $625.00. Harrison is currently jailed on charges of Burglary of a Habitation with bail set at $20,000. Kennemore was arrested and released on a $1500.00 bond.

Joe (Joey) Heiman, 34 years of age of Sargent, was arrested on a felony Theft warrant for stealing and pawning $25,000.00 worth of jewelry belonging to a woman injured in a vehicle/pedestrian accident in Cedar Lane earlier this summer. The woman’s jewelry was removed before she was life flighted to Houston. Heiman, a friend of the victim, held onto the jewelry for her. When she was released from the hospital, Heiman couldn’t produce her jewelry and a report was made to the Sheriff’s Office. Investigators obtained statements from others involved but not charged in the incident and recovered a $12,500 Rolex watch from Gold Exchange in Humble as well as recovering a $12,500 diamond ring from a pawn shop also located in Humble. Heiman remains in jail on a $50,000.00 bond.

Dylan Brannen, 19 years of age of Sargent, is also wanted in connection with the burglaries. Anyone having any information on his whereabouts is urged to contact the Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office.

Capt. Richard Rooth praised investigators Sgt. Robert Thompson, Sgt. Randy Worthey and Sgt. Charlotte Brown for their diligence and good police work in identifying suspects, obtaining confessions and recovering and returning over $50,000 worth of stolen property to the owners. “In over two decades of working for this agency, I have never seen such a productive dedicated group of investigators” stated Chief Deputy Bruce Page.
