Dear Editor

On behalf of the Bay City Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture, I would like to make sure everyone understands exactly what happened with the latest Mayoral Forum.

We would like to clear up any misunderstanding with the public.

On Monday May 10th we send this email to both candidates:

“I would like to invite you to participate in a Mayor’s Forum May 25 at 7 p.m. We will have the event at the Bay City Civic Center located at 201 7th Street. We will use the Main Hall, so we can have plenty of room. We picked the 25 because it was convenient for the reporters and the Civic Center is available. It will follow the same format as the last forum, except the reporters have asked to be able to ask questions individually.

Not sure yet if the 92.5 will air the forum, Patrick has to ask the manager. The reporters want to ask at least 3 questions each, so we might have to plan on 90 minutes. Please let me know if you have any questions.”

On Friday May 14th we received this response:

“Dear Mr. Thames,

This email is to inform the Chamber that I must decline the invitation for the May 25th forum due to prior commitments. However I am eager to answer any questions and can be reached at brickerformayor@gmail.com.

Sincerely

Mark Bricker

On the same day, Friday May 14th we responded with this email:

“Mark,

I received your email letting us know you were not available on the 25th of May.

Good news we are very flexible.

What is a good date for you, I will contact the others and see if we can reschedule.

Thanks

Mitch Thames”

On May 18 we received this response from Jacob Schulz:

We must inform you that Mr. Bricker will not be available to attend another public forum or debate in the upcoming weeks. We are confident that the April 27th forum provided the community with sufficient insight into the candidates and the issues. Mr. Bricker is committed to his campaign, which will require an extensive time commitment in the days leading to the election. If anyone has questions for Mr. Bricker, please let them know that he will be more than happy to answer their questions at our event: Meet the Candidate Rally - Mark Bricker, Tuesday - May 25th, 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm, at Liberty Park. In addition, he is always available via email at brickerformayor@gmail.com. We appreciate the Chamber giving Mr. Bricker a platform at the last forum, but due to the significant time requirements of the campaign, he will be unable to attend another forum.

Thank you for your understanding,

Jacob Schulz”

Just to make sure there would not be any miscommunication I responded with this email:

“I just want to make sure it’s ok to quote this email to those who ask when we will hold the forum.”

Here is the answer I received from Jacob:

“Feel free to quote me on this email. Thank you for asking.

Thanks”

Jacob Schulz

Campaign Manager

It is unfortunate that a few people have the impression that Mr. Bricker was being excluded.

The Bay City Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture wants what is best for our city and community.

Good luck to both candidates and we encourage everyone to vote.
