Have you ever had someone talk bad about you?! Ever had people you thought were your friends speak hateful, hurtful words? How about family members accusing you of things that aren’t even close to true? I’ve got one more, have you heard a person trying to discredit you by spreading gossip about you?
The list is virtually endless and the truth is they happen often. If you answered yes to any of these questions, I have some great words of wisdom for you: “WHO CARES?!”
I mean it, who cares? I know it hurts our feelings and feels like a knife in the back (or in the heart) when people act that way, but nothing they do or say can change what is true.
Think about it, when a fourth grade boy comes home from school and is upset because kids claim he was wearing panties, what do rational parents say to him? They tell their son that it doesn’t matter what those kids say cause it’s not true. Many times the parents will say, “I don’t care what they said…” We would be wise to remember those words.
Sometimes we do things we are ashamed of and try to move on. There will inevitably be that person who wants to remind us, and others, of our failures. Even in this situation, WHO CARES?! There is no reason to defend yourself against gossip and mean spirited words. Let truth speak for itself.
If we approach the “drama” this way, we can easily reduce the amount of stress in our lives. There is no need to worry about what everyone (by the way, it’s never “everyone,” we just think it is) is saying or thinking about you, because it does not change the truth. Take a look at Psalm 37, it will help you remember that God is always for you when you are doing right.
