The Lower Colorado Regional Water planning group (Region K) met on Wednesday to take comments from the public on the 2011 regional water plan draft. The regional plan included input from 14 counties, including Matagorda and 13 interest groups.
The purpose of the meetings was to discuss and receive feedback and comments from the community.
The presentation given provided an overview of the population and water demand projections for the next 50 years, water availability and supply estimates, water management strategies and potential impacts on Matagorda Bay and natural resources. Policy recommendations were also outlined.
The State water plan is created from 16 regional plans, the latest regional plan published in 2006 and state plan published in 2007. Each region prepares a 50-year water plan, updated every five years.
Other public meetings taking place will be in Burnet on March 31 at the Burnet Community Center and in Austin, April 28 at the Thompson Conference Center.
