Come on, you know you should. It’s the right thing to do. It’ll change your life for the better. Why haven’t you done it yet? Kill the cow. You know what I’m talking about, the sacred one that is stopping you from having the life God planned for you.
Let me lay this out as simply as I can. All too often we are too stubborn to change. If you have a hobby, tradition or convenience that is getting in the way of a real relationship with God or people, it’s gotta go.
Think you don’t have one? Ask your husband, wife, or close friend. If you ask and all they do is shrug their shoulders with a look of “I don’t know” on their face, trust me, you’ve got one. They know what it is. They’re just afraid to tell you because it has become an untouchable subject that probably result in anger.
In II Samuel, chapter 6, you can read the account of King David trying to bring the Ark of God (you know, the one from Indiana Jones) back home. He knew the right way was to have certain guys carry it, but decided to go with the convenience of oxen instead.
It resulted in a man’s death and the Ark was left behind for a year. For that year, a guy named Obed kept it at his house and received great blessings from God. Finally David decided to try the right way, and even sacrificed the bovine in worship to God. It worked, and the whole country was blessed, but he had lost an entire year’s worth of fulfillment.
Don’t be like David and waste time. Get rid of the cow, or at least reprioritize, so that doing it God’s way comes first. Too many prefer to milk the cow for temporary pleasure rather than butcher it to have permanent blessing.
