Dear Editor:

Well here we go again the CDC and another local paper spreading Misinformation again.

For one thing all you have to do is read the City Charter page 18 article lX section 9.01 (A) “A Department of Finance is created which shall:

(A)  “Supervise and be responsible for the receipt and disbursement of all City money”. Of course this part of the Charter continues with more duties of this Department but this is a key point because the CDC is in violation of the Charter.

Now if you turn to page 3 article ll Section 2.02 under Specific powers

(F) “Pass and enforce ordinances, not inconsistent with this Charter and State law”. This Section also continues but this is the key point. My last point is on page 10 Section 4.10 Vacancies, Forfeiture, and Removal.

(B) A Councilmember shall forfeit his office if he:

(2) “violates any express prohibition of this Charter or”. Once again this is the key point copies of the Charter can be picked up at City Hall and are free .The fact that our older members of council and our past Mayor gave the CDC checkbook to the Board and Director is violating the Charter. Mismanagement of the Bay City Community Development Corporation has occurred. The board states that it openly invites scrutiny of its past activities and future actions to any professional and unbiased query. Guess what you operate using Taxpayer funds that information is open to anyone. I guess that is why when I requested all Finical Records for the CDC under an Open Records Request for 2010 to present on the 10thof May 2011 I didn’t receive them. These are the same tactics used by the City under our old Mayor when I requested credit card records. Remember the City sued the AG’s office twice to keep that info from me and when they did turn documents over they had destroyed some and altered others. The Director of the CDC lives out of town When the CDC was told they could not use Taxpayer funds to purchase alcohol they changed their bylaws so they could keep the party rolling on the Taxpayers dime. It is time to follow the Charter and take the checkbook away from the CDC. Support our new Mayor. If you can make council meetings please go there is one on the 22nd of this month. It is time to beat back a small group of people in this town that want to remove the Mayor because he wants our tax dollars to benefit us all. I just don’t understand why these people think they are better than every other taxpayer in this town. It is time for those who believe in truth and honesty to stand against these people with our Mayor and stop the waste and abuse of our tax dollars and move this City forward together.

  Thank you Eric Schroeder

  • Mr Schroeder. Thank you for being a beacon of light and goodness in the community. Thank you for never demeaning people's names in public, for being polite and dignified at city council meetings, for always listening to the other side of the story and giving them ample time to communicate their views. Thanks so much for your insight into legal city matters. The average folks around would be at a loss to understand these things without your help. Thanks to your superior understanding of state, county, and local laws, we don't need to go to a lawyer or CPA to interpret these things. And as always your opinion is 100% unbiased. It's great to know you are out there beating the bushes for us...a true champion of the people.
